Mother's Day Wishes

My wife and I enjoying Mother's Day with the kids
Let me start off by extending my sincere Happy Mother's Day greeting to anyone reading who is loved and appreciated as a mother. Many have fulfilled that role in my life. My biological mother lives in Hawaii and my step mother lives within a few miles of where I live now in Washington. Both are very dear to me and claim their own place in my heart. Both of my biological Grandmothers have passed. Another grandmother, who we affectionately call "Obachan," is my step grandmother and also lives nearby. She is approaching 90 years old and is also very special to me. Finally, there is my lovely wife, confidant, partner and mother of my children. Happy Mother's Day honey!!

Spending Mother's Day as a Family

We wanted to spend this Mother's Day weekend together as a family. My daughter is in her third year of college and no longer lives at home, so we decided to go to her. Here's how our weekend played out.

After work on Friday, we (wife and I and 17 year old son) packed up the RV and made the 160 mile drive over the mountains to visit our daughter at school. It had been several weeks since we've been on the road, so it felt really good to be in the RV and on the move. I decided not to drag the car along since our daughter has her own car and could be our local transportation for the weekend. Of course, there was a little exchange of gas money involved.

Had the place to ourselves (that's my daughter's car)
We arrived to an almost empty RV park, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves. We visited with friends on Friday night who just happened to be in town as well. Then on Saturday morning, my wife and I got up early for a run...something we always do on Saturday mornings. Mother's day weekend or not, we got it done. We actually ran by our daughter's house along the way, pictured in the background of this photo.

Our daughter spent the remainder of the day with us and even spent the night in the RV.

Mother's Day Breakfast

On Sunday morning, I woke up early to kick off the Mother's day pampering. I served up some coffee and started breakfast. The kids were still asleep and I chose not to wake them just yet as I knew it would be painful...for all of us. I finally woke them around around 8:30 in time to help put the finishing touches on breakfast.

Cookin up some grub
We all loved having breakfast together as family as we have done so many times in the RV. I made a scramble with ham, eggs, diced potatoes and tomatoes. We also had mini muffins and fruit to go along with it. Everyone enjoyed it...as far as I know.

The four of us together on Mother's Day
After relaxing for a few hours, we had to say goodbye to our daughter and start the 3+ hour drive home. The drive was pretty good and my wife was able to lay down and relax for most of it while I got us home safely. Confession: At one point I was thinking of what to make for dinner and missed a critical exit off the highway. Oh well, everyone was sleeping as I turned around at the next exit. Oops!

Pretty windy drive heading towards home...130 miles to go

Just a little rain over the pass, but that was it.
We made it home around 4:30 in the afternoon, cleaned the RV, unpacked and relaxed for little while until it was time to whip up a nice little dinner.

Today seemed a little busy, but she's worth it.

"When is Father's Day again and where are we gonna go?"
