How To

Just like your home, car or boat, your RV needs regular care and maintenance to keep it looking and running great. Learning how to do some of these projects yourself can not only save you lots of money, but give you valuable insight into the inner workings of your RV.

I've taken on several of these do-it-yourself projects over the past few years and am thrilled to be able to share what I've learned with you.

Installing a Flexible Solar Panel on your RV

I've recently equipped my RV with solar power to keep my house batteries charged up when not connected to shore power. Instead of standard solar panels, I decided to install a flexible solar panel from UniSolar. I am very happy with the result. Take a tour of my RV solar setup and see how I installed the flexible UniSolar panels. I also put together videos about my TriMetric Battery monitor and Morningstar TriStar solar charge controller for you.

Improve RV Handling with Anti-Sway Bars
I've recently replaced my stock OEM anti-sway bars with upgraded anti-sway bars from Hellwig. My RV now handles more like an SUV instead of a sloppy big RV. In these two posts, I'll show you how to do it.

Restringing Day Night Shades
If you have worn or broken window shades, let me show you how to restring them yourself. As it turns out, this is a pretty easy and low-cost project.

Change the oil in your Onan generator
You should change your generator oil each year. There's no need to pay someone to do it. It's pretty inexpensive to do it yourself. I'll tell you what tools and materials you need.
