If you are like me, I hate planning too far in advance for an RV trip. I just don't like to think that far in advance. In fact, many of our best RV experiences have occurred on trips that were either spontaneous ("let's get out of here for the weekend") or very loosely planned ("let's to to California. We'll figure it out on the road"). There is a down side to that approach however. When that long weekend arrives and you haven't made plans....well you're unlikely going to get a spot at a popular location. But in late fall or late winter, spots are always open and require no advanced planning. In fact you may luck out and get in on a freakishly warm and sunny weekend in the middle of the winter. You can't plan for those. It's just luck.
We bought our RV in the winter to, among other reasons, try to capitalize on the down market and negotiate a killer deal. It worked! As soon as we took possession of our dream RV we headed straight to the ocean. Getting reservations was not the problem. In fact, the state park lost power that night and I got to fire up my generator for the first time. But that's another story.
Have I talked you into it yet? I think that if there's no ice on the ground, then it's safe to leave town.

Great idea. My problem is that I own my own business and this is our slooooow time of the year. All we do is hunker down and try to conserve funds til spring breaks. Looking forward to warmer weather. I hope you luck out and get one of those "out of the ordinary" good winter weekends.
ReplyDeleteI could not have said it better myself! Roll on Tito......:)
