Soul'd Out at the Seven Cedars Casino (Great Live Music)

By on Sunday, April 18, 2010

We had heard of a local Seattle band named Soul'd Out that was putting on a show at the Seven Cedars Casino in Sequim, Washington. Going on a recommendation from a family member (who knew a member of the band) we organized a large group of family and friends and ventured out on Saturday afternoon to do a little boondocking in the casino parking lot and listen to some great live music.

The short drive to Sequim took about an hour. We arrived just in time to meet our RV buddies in the rear of the large parking lot. They had already claimed their spot and there was lots of room. We parked our rig one space away from the other rigs and put out our slides. It was mid afternoon, the sun was out, and it was time for a little relaxation. It would be a few hours before the show started (at 9PM) so we relaxed for a while in the parking lot with friends before heading inside for a nice meal. A hefty portion of baked Halibut in the restaurant was almost more than I could eat, but I managed.

As is customary at a casino, we took a few minutes to make a small monetary contribution to the local tribe. As the large meal took a hold of our digestive system, I looked at my wife and said "I'm tired." She replied "me too." So, in anticipation of a late night, we returned to the motorhome for a short power nap before the show. This, of course, is the benefit of bringing your home and bed with you to a party. We arose promptly at showtime and popped back into the night club refreshed, as if we'd been there the whole time.

Showtime!

Soul'd Out was incredible! Having had experience performing in a band for many years, I'm usually quick to critique live performances and pick them apart. I have to say, that this group was amazing. They performed many of our favorite R&B songs from the 70's, 80's and 90's and did so extremely well. Among the many groups represented were Earth Wind and Fire, The Jacksons, K.C. and the Sunshine Band, Commodores, and even Mary J. Blige. The band and vocalists were very tight and nailed each song with precision. They performed three one hour sets before wrapping up at 1AM. Needless to say, we stayed to the very end. Thank God for that power nap.

After the show, we said good night to everyone and retired to our motorhome with the rhythm of our favorite songs still fresh in our minds. Luckily, the temperature outside hovered in the low to mid 50s so we made it through the night without needing to run the heater. In the morning we headed back into the casino for a hefty breakfast before heading home. Again, the meal was portioned for a king-sized appetite and certainly fueled me for the remainder of the day.

We definitely had a great time listening to great live music with family and friends. I look forward to seeing Soul'd Out again and recommend that you do as well if you can.
