In search of wine in Salt Lake City

Last night, we ran out of wine. After checking in to the RV park last night, I decided to go on a quest for more wine. I knew it might be a problem because we were in Utah.

The RV park is located in a pseudo industrial area, so there didn't appear to be any stores nearby. Determined to find some wine, I kept driving. I drove towards the hills where the area was more residential. I found a grocery store that had beer, but no wine. I found a store employee and asked where I could buy some wine. He said you can only get it at a Utah State liquor store. I was told that there was a state store a couple of miles down the road, but that it would close at 7PM. It was 6:50PM at the time. I quickly drove down the street dodging traffic and stop lights, but was unable to find the place in time. So far...no wine.

I noticed a nearby Costco, so I thought I'd check there. After all, there is wine at the Costco at home. In Costco I searched and searched. I then asked a Costco employee and, of course, no wine. I did find some Pita Chips and Pumkin Flax Granola that I bought. I called Mrs T and relayed the bad news..."no wine".

Determined not to be beaten by the Utah Liquor control laws, I decided to head to the other end of Salt Lake City where I had heard there was another State liquor store open until 9PM. The problem was that I was in a place called Bountiful which is near the city called North Salt Lake. The other liquor store was located about 12 miles away on the other end of Salt Lake City. So off I went.

As you may have guessed by now, this story has a happy ending. I drove across town, found the liquor store and bought enough white wine to get us through the rest of the trip (I won't say how many bottles). I returned back to the RV Park feeling victorious. Now we've got wine.

  1. Now that is a quest I can fully relate to. Nice job T, only in Utah could it be that difficult.

Funny that you should mention about Mrs. Cool J carrying and extra set of keys, she had her other set in her purse which she left inside the rig. Lesson learned there for sure.

Mrs. D is naping on the couch as I write this but we plan to going over to the casino this afternoon for a couple of hours and then back to the rigs for the mariner game and cocktails.

The casino Gods have not been kind to us so far so we are not spending alot of time there. Anyway, glad your wine supply has been restored and all is well and much fun is being had. We'll check in tomorrow when we arrive in Canyonville. -D
