Cheap Trick, Heart and Journey Concert in Seattle

Enjoying the concert out on the lawn at the White River Amphitheater on Friday night. We were worried that the rain might roll in but it's just cloudy. It's a packed venue tonight with all of us 80s rockers trying to remember the words to all of these songs. The girls are in the beer garden while the Bs hold down the blanket.

Follow-up: It was great to see that Ann and Nancy Wilson could still rock out. Ann could still belt it out like the rest of them. For those Journey fans out there, you'll be glad to know that their new young lead singer, Arnel Pineda, sounds "exactly" like Steve Perry. We were up on the grass and couldn't see very well so most of the time we were just listening. You would swear that it was a young was Steve Perry up there singing. It was kind of weird.

It's a very cool story about how Neal Schon decided to search YouTube for a new lead singer. He came across Arnel's band, "The Zoo" performing the song "Faithfully" in the Phillipines. Neal Schon couldn't believe what he had found. He took some time to digest what he'd found and later tried to email Arnel. Arnel, upon receiving the message, did not respond thinking that it was, of course, a hoax that Neal Schon from his dream band Journey was offering him this opportunity. Arnel later thought, "What if it wasn't a joke?" and later responded to the message. The rest is history.

Here's the YouTube video of The Zoo doing Faithfully that got Arnel discovered.
Here's a video of Arnel's debut performing 'Open Arms' with Journey in Chile.

Back to the show...overall, Journey was really rockin. Lead guitarist Neal Schon and the rest of the band can still rock hard. It was great. Cheap Trick was pretty good as well. I was never a big Cheap Trick fan but did recognize several songs that I didn't realize they did. The highlights for us were definitely the Heart and Journey performances.

Leaving the venue was a bit of a struggle. The parking lot was totally grid locked and it took a while to get out. I noticed a row of RVs in the back row of the parking lot. I don't know if they allow overnighting it there, but it would be something to look into for next time. Get there early, park the RV, leave in the morning and avoid the chaotic parking lot exodus after the show.
